NO FIREWORKS FOR PORTLAND, BLANKED 4-0 AT TRENTON!
Portland starts a 7-game homestand on Friday

(Trenton, NJ) – Trenton starter Jason Jones (9-3) retired 21 of 23 and the final 15 batters faced, aiding the Thunder (51-34) to a 4-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (46-37) on Thursday night in the series finale at Waterfront Park. Portland and Trenton split a 4-game series and the Thunder took 4 of 7 during the two team’s week long home and home series.

Jones allowed just two hits, singles to Jeff Corsaletti (1st inning) and Ryan Khoury (3rd inning). The righty recorded perfect frames in five of seven innings and beat the Sea Dogs for the second time this season.

Khoury had two of the three Portland hits as the Thunder staff retired 27 of 30 batters faced. Trenton reliever Mark Melancon worked the final two innings on one hit (Khoury bunt-single) and three strikeouts. Portland did not have a baserunner reach second base.

Portland’s Adam Mills (0-1) suffered the loss in his Double-A debut, allowing eight hits and two runs. Trenton scored both runs off Mills in the first inning with two outs. Austin Jackson started the rally with a single and scored on Chris Malec’s RBI double. Jason Cooper followed with a run-scoring single but was thrown out by LF Jeff Corsaletti trying to stretch it into a double.

Mills, who made the start for RHP Matt Goodson, did not issue a walk or record a strikeout. The righty allowed four hits after the first inning and only one runner to reach second base.

Trenton scored twice off Daniel Haigwood in the eighth inning. Reegie Corona doubled home Edwar Gonzalez, who led off the frame with a 2-base hit. With two outs, Colin Curtis singled to the 2B Tony Granadillo, scoring Corona. Haigwood pitched the final two innings for the Sea Dogs, allowing two runs on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Portland returns home for the holiday weekend on Friday night to host the Reading Phillies in a 4-game series at Hadlock Field. RHP Michael Bowden (7-4, 2.48) will face RHP Tyler Brummett (1-1, 5.85). Friday night’s game is sold out but tickets for future games at Hadlock Field are available at www.seadogs.com
